Dr Brian Meade is a Colorectal Surgeon, who also practices in the areas of laparoscopic and general surgery. He has been consulting in colorectal surgery at the Wesley since 2006.

 

After training in Australia, Dr Meade spent 12 months as the pseudomyxoma/clinical research fellow in a world recognised Colorectal Unit in the United Kingdom. Here he worked with Professor Bill Heald, one of the pioneers of current techniques in rectal cancer surgery. He also gained extensive experience in the unique procedure of peritonectomy/cytoreduction surgery and performed several cases with Dr Paul Sugarbaker, the pioneer of the technique, in Washington. Dr Meade obtained sub-specialty colorectal training by completing the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand’s Post-Fellowship training scheme in 2006/07. This included extensive laparoscopic experience.

 

Dr Meade is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand, the Dukes Club – Association Coloproctology Great Britain and Ireland, General Surgeons Australia, Surgical Research Society of Australia and the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group.

Dr John Lumley is a Colorectal Surgeon with a special interest in laparoscopic surgery and pelvic floor dysfunction. He has been practicing at The Wesley Hospital since 1992.

 

After gaining his surgical qualifications, Dr Lumley undertook additional training in the Australian Post Fellowship Colorectal Training Scheme. Dr Lumley is experienced in all aspects of laparoscopic colorectal surgery, sacral nerve stimulation for faecal incontinence and pelvic floor disorders with access to colorectal diagnostics.

 

Dr Lumley has been involved with teaching laparoscopic colorectal surgery since its inception 20 years ago. He continues to be involved with research on aspects of colorectal cancer. He is a member of the Australian Medical Association, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand.
