Dr Nicholas O’Rourke has been consulting in general, laparoscopic and hepatobiliary surgery at the Wesley since 1994. Dr O’Rourke has a special interest in general laparoscopic surgery, including laparoscopic hernia and cholecystectomy. He is renowned nationally and internationally as an expert in laparoscopic liver and pancreatic surgery, and frequently lectures on these topics. Dr O’Rourke also performs other laparoscopic surgery, including laparoscopic banding, thoracoscopic sympathectomy, and has an interest in laparoscopic surgery for the acute abdomen.

 

Dr O'Rourke has a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and is currently President of the Australia and New Zealand Hepato Pancreatico Biliary Association.

Dr Nathanson is a General Surgeon with special interests in laparoscopic, hepatobiliary and upper gastrointestinal surgery. He currently works as a Visiting Medical Practitioner at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and has worked privately at the Wesley since 1991.

 

Dr Nathanson received his medical degree from the University of Cape Town and is also a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. In the early nineties, Dr Nathanson spent three years in Scotland developing laparoscopic surgery. He is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Queensland. Dr Nathanson is also a member of a number of professional bodies including the Australian Medical Association, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association and the Gastroenterological Society of Australia.

Dr Bowden is a General Surgeon specialising in bariatric surgery, general laparoscopic surgery, upper GI, liver and pancreatic cancer surgery. He is currently one of very few American Society of Bariatric Surgery trained surgeons in Australia for weight loss surgery. He is the principal surgeon at Queensland Bariatrics (incorporating the Wesley Obesity Clinic), which is a multidisciplinary clinic helping the morbidly obese lead healthier and happier lives.

 

After completing medical school at the University of Queensland, Dr Bowden completed fellowship training in advanced laparoscopic surgery at New York University, United States; Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, United Kingdom; and following this completed a two month travelling fellowship visiting world leading institutions in Upper Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary surgery throughout Europe and the United States.

 

Dr Bowden is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and is a member of the Australian Medical Association, Obesity Surgery Society of Australia and New Zealand, Society of American Gastrointestinal Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Dr Martin is a General, Hepatobiliary and Upper GI Surgeon. His portfolio includes laparoscopic surgery for hernia, reflux, obesity and gallstones. He specialises in malignancies of the oesophagus, stomach, liver and pancreas.

 

Dr Martin received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland and is also a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr Martin was formerly a Consultant Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr Adib is a General Surgeon specialising in laparoscopic, gastrointestinal and obesity surgery. He has special interests in advanced laparoscopic surgery, upper gastrointestinal surgery and heptaobiliary surgery.

 

 

 Dr Adib commenced his surgical career in 1994 at the Royal Brisbane Hospital as a surgical trainee. In 1996 he was selected to the Advanced Surgical Training program, and subsequently became a Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2000. Dr Adib was selected for a Subspecialty Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in Colchester, England; after a year in England, he was accepted as the international Fellow at The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Scotland’s largest centre for Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Upper Gastrointestinal disorders.

 

Dr Adib is a fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the world’s oldest College of Surgeons. In 2004 Dr Adib returned to Brisbane, and started private practice in laparoscopic gastrointestinal and obesity surgery. In 2006, he established the Brisbane Obesity Clinic. Dr Adib is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Society of Obesity Surgeons, the International Hepatobiliary Association, the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons, United Kingdom, and the European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons.
