Dr Steven Yang is an orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in complex spine reconstruction and vertebral tumour surgery as well as all aspects of adult and paediatric spine surgery, hand and peripheral nerve surgeries. Prior to joining BrizBrain & Spine in 2013, he was the Director of orthopaedic surgery and the Director of spine surgery Fellowship at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
After completing his medical training in 1994 he spent a few years working in different specialty areas. He undertook advanced training in orthopaedic surgery and obtained the Fellowship of the Australasian College of Surgeons in 2004. Dr Yang then completed a Fellowship in hand surgery in Sydney followed by a Fellowship in complex spine surgery.
Dr Yang has gained experience in leading edge spine surgery in Cleveland, Ohio, New York and Germany where he had visiting fellowship appointments. He is also actively involved in research in spinal infection and oncology through the Royal Brisbane Hospital, whilst also being a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the School of Medicine, University of Queensland. Dr Yang is a member of the Australasian College of Surgeons, the Australian Medical Association, the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association and the Spine Society of Australia.

Dr David Shooter graduated from The University of Queensland in 1999 and did the majority of his training at Queensland’s two premier public hospitals, the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. After working as a staff consultant at QEII Jubilee Hospital, including nine months as Director of Orthopaedic Surgery, he moved to the UK for twelve months, working at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London. There, he worked exclusively in the Bone Tumour and Joint Reconstruction Unit, gaining unique experience and expertise in the surgical evaluation and management of bone and soft tissue sarcomas, both adult and paediatric. Dr Shooter also trained extensively in revision arthroplasty and cartilage transplantation.
Dr Shooter’s scope of practice includes orthopaedic oncology; primary and revision arthroplasty, including deformity (DDH etc); cartilage transplantation and trauma. He is also happy to treat most upper limb conditions, including traumatic tendon and nerve injuries; paediatric conditions; sports knee injuries, including ACL, meniscal and osteochondral pathology; and WorkCover injuries. However, Dr Shooter does not treat shoulders or spines.

Dr Rohan Brunello is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with special interest in hip and knee arthroplasty, pelvic and acetabular reconstruction and trauma. He has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement Studies) and a Medical Degree (with honours), from the University of Queensland. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedics) and an Associate Member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.
Dr Brunello has a Fellowship in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty and Pelvic and Acetabular Trauma and Reconstruction at St Georges Hospital, London 2011. During his Fellowship, Dr Brunello worked under leading UK arthroplasty surgeons, Mr Simon Bridle and Mr Phillip Mitchell. He gained wide exposure and experience in all aspects of hip and knee arthroplasty, with a special focus on complex primary cases, revision cases with bone loss requiring femoral and acetabular reconstruction and the treatment of infected joint replacements. He subsequently went on to work in the UK’s busiest pelvic and acetabular trauma unit under leading authority, Mr Martin Bircher.
Dr Brunello commenced practice at the Wesley Orthopaedic and Sports Injury Clinic in March 2012. He is also a Staff specialist in Orthopaedics at Prince Charles Hospital and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He is a Senior Lecturer at The University of Queensland’s School of Medicine and on the teaching faculty for the Diploma of Surgical Anatomy at Queensland University of Technology’s Medical Engineering Research Faculty.

Dr Sommerville is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in knee, hip, lower limb trauma surgery and orthopaedic oncology/musculoskeletal tumour surgery. He also has a particular interest in primary and revision total joint arthroplasty and musculoskeletal tumour surgery. Dr Sommerville was educated in Brisbane and received his medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1990. He completed his orthopaedic training in 2000 and was granted a Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He gained further experience in total joint arthroplasty and orthopaedic oncology at the prestigious Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, UK.
Dr Sommerville is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland, and is also an adjunct senior lecturer at The Diamantina Institute (formerly The Centre for Immunology and Cancer Research). He has been with The Wesley Hospital as a Visiting Medical Practitioner since 2003 and has appointments at other Brisbane hospitals in both the private and public sectors.
His memberships in professional organisations include: Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Member of the Australian Medical Association, Member of the Australian Sarcoma Group.
