The Wesley Hospital Expansion SOD Turn - March 2026

Queensland healthcare capacity is set to receive a significant boost with construction starting on a quarter billion-dollar medical services building connected to The Wesley Hospital.

UnitingCare Queensland’s investment will deliver vital healthcare services for patients and state-of-the-art research facilities in a new 10-storey building that will be linked to the existing hospital campus by a covered pedestrian footbridge and provide parking for 200 vehicles.

It will provide a dedicated Day Surgery Centre with six new operating theatres, upgraded and expanded radiation oncology facilities, suites for clinicians, as well as space for The Wesley Hospital to expand established services such as Wesley Breast Clinic and realise its vision of creating Queensland’s largest private comprehensive cancer centre of excellence.

Set to open in late 2028, the expansion of one of Queensland’s most recognised and respected not-for-profit private hospitals will respond to changing patient preferences and growing demand for a range of services including surgery and cancer care.

For more than a century, The Wesley Hospital has been a trusted part of Queensland’s health landscape, grounded in compassion, clinical excellence and community service.  This building marks a significant investment in the future of the hospital and its commitment to meeting demand for health services.

“This building enables us to expand and modernise services – delivering specialist care for patients from across the state, while meeting the needs of a growing and aging population,” UnitingCare’s Group Executive – Hospitals, David Harper said.

“Patients and their families are at the heart of everything we do, and this is part of our commitment to ensuring The Wesley’s services meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve now, and into the future.”

Being directly connected into the hospital, the building will expand on the existing healthcare ecosystem where medical and surgical services, research, education, and consulting spaces co-locate for the benefit of patients.

“Clinicians have asked and we have delivered,” Mr Harper added.

The Wesley precinct already provides a range of acute tertiary-level medical and surgical services by 1,100 Visiting Medical Practitioners and more than 2,500 health staff. The new facility will enhance capacity in key specialist areas increasing capacity to deliver safe, high-quality care.
