Dr Cotterill, Queensland Paediatric Endocrinology’s principal, is recognised internationally as an expert in diagnosing and treating endocrine disorders in babies, children and adolescents. He began practicing at The Wesley Hospital in 2014 and is experienced across the myriad of endocrine disorders.
Dr Cotterill trained in adult and children’s medicine and became a paediatrician (specialist children’s physician) in 1988 and became an accredited paediatric endocrinologist in 1993. He holds medical qualifications from both the UK and Australia.
From 1996 Dr Cotterill headed the Mater Children’s Hospital’s paediatric endocrinology unit and led the transition of the Mater and Royal Children’s Hospital’s paediatric endocrinology departments to the new Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in 2014.
Dr Cotterill has held regular outreach clinics at regional Queensland centres, such as Bundaberg, Rockhampton and Gladstone, where there is no local paediatric endocrinologist.
He is a past president of the Australian Paediatric Endocrine Group which fosters a sharing of research and clinical care among paediatric endocrinologists across Australia and New Zealand, and is an associate professor at the University of Queensland, sharing his knowledge with a new generation of doctors. Dr Cotterill is married with three children, now grown into wonderful adults.
