Dr John Arvier is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with more than 34 years experience in specialist oral and maxillofacial surgery practice.
As well as the private practice at the Wesley Medical Centre, there are branches in Carindale and Sunnybank. Dr Arvier is also a Visiting Medical Officer at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, and is a consultant member of the Queensland Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training program. He completed his dental undergraduate training at the University of Queensland, with subsequent post-graduate surgical training at King’s College Hospital Medical school in London, and then Royal Adelaide Hospital & Adelaide University in Australia. He has a special interest in maxillofacial trauma, and is associated with several of the professional football codes in Brisbane.
He is a former chairman of the Overseas Aid Committee of ANZAOMS (Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons), and has made 36 separate visits to Bangladesh, Cambodia and New Guinea, where ANZAOMS has helped establish formal training programs. He was the inaugural examiner in all 3 centres, and has also made three surgical visits to Africa; to Congo with AusHEAL, and Ethiopia and Somaliland with Australian Doctors for Africa (ADFA). Dr Arvier is also a long term member of Rotary, and has treated many patients brought to The Wesley Hospital for surgical procedures not available in their home countries.
Dr Arvier has achieved a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (Qld), Master of Science (Oral Surgery) (London), and MDS (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) (Adel), and is a Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International (FADI), and the International College of Dentists (FICD).
He was awarded an OAM for services to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2006.
