Dr Josefin Petersson

Dr Josefin Petersson is an experienced colorectal surgeon with interests in minimally invasive colorectal surgery, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor dysfunction and colorectal diagnostics. She manages a broad range of conditions, including functional bowel disorders, pelvic floor pathology, inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer.

Following completion of general surgical training, she completed advanced colorectal fellowships in Gothenburg, Sweden; Newcastle, NSW; and at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She has extensive experience in advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Dr Petersson works as a colorectal surgeon at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where she is leading the introduction of the robotic general surgical program. She is also operating at The Wesley Hospital in Brisbane. She holds a PhD from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and remains actively involved in research, with a focus on improving surgical technique and delivering patient-centred, evidence-based care.
