Dr Georghiou completed his medical degree from Monash University in 1982. After training in Brisbane in Infectious Diseases, he obtained his Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1989. This was followed by a post-doctoral fellowship in Infectious Disease at the Baylor College of Medicine, USA from 1991 to 1993.
Dr Georghiou is a member of the following organisations: Royal Australian College of Physicians, Australian Society for Infectious Disease, American Society of Microbiology, International Society for Travel Medicine, Australasian Society for HIV Medicine and Infectious Diseases Society of America, Australian Society for Microbiology.
