Dr Jonathan Sen is a clinical and academic cardiologist with subspecialty training and expertise in cardio-oncology, valvular heart disease (in particular aortic stenosis), heart failure, general cardiology and advanced cardiovascular imaging. Formal fellowship training in cardio-oncology remains uncommon in Australia. As a cardiologist holding this specialist credential, Dr Sen offers expert cardiovascular care for patients planned for, undergoing or having completed cancer treatment. Alongside his subspecialty interests, he manages the full breadth of general cardiology conditions. He provides inpatient and outpatient consultations and specialist echocardiography services at The Wesley Hospital in Brisbane through Premier Cardiology.

Dr Sen completed his undergraduate Health Sciences degree in Canada, during which he completed multiple trailblazing theses in the, then, developing fields of bioinformatics and augmented reality. He studied medicine at the Australian National University in Canberra graduating in 2012. He subsequently completed his advanced training in Cardiology with Metro South Health where he served as the Chief Cardiology Registrar at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2022 and 2023.

Dr Sen completed a PhD supervised by Professor Thomas Marwick and A/Prof Sudhir Wahi, which focused on machine learning applications and precision medicine in aortic stenosis through the University of Melbourne and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in 2024.

After completing his award-winning PhD, Dr Sen undertook a highly competitive post-doctoral fellowship in cardio-oncology at the University Health Network and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada’s top hospital and cancer centre, under the mentorship of Professor Paaladinesh Thavendiranathan in 2025. This fellowship provided comprehensive training in cardiovascular risk stratification before, during, and after cancer therapy, advanced multimodality cardiac imaging surveillance, and the management of the full spectrum of cancer therapy-related cardiovascular complications, including immune checkpoint inhibitor myocarditis, anthracycline and targeted therapy cardiotoxicity, and radiation-induced heart disease, among others.  As a reflection of his expertise in the field, Dr Sen was invited to publish a state-of-the-art review for the pre-eminent journal in cardio-oncology, JACC: CardioOncology and to present at multiple Canadian conferences.

Dr Sen has published extensively in leading journals including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Cardiovascular Imaging, and often speaks at local and international meetings. His extensive research experience informs his holistic clinical approach, ensuring patients benefit from the latest evidence and emerging best practices in cardiovascular care.

With respect to medical education, in addition to contributing to the training of over 250 trainees, Dr Sen is a co-founder of the Association of Queensland Advanced Trainees in Cardiology (AQuATIC), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to teaching, mentorship and advocacy for cardiology trainees in Queensland.
