Dr Sam Hayman is an Interventional Cardiologist located primarily in Brisbane, Queensland. He specialises in coronary and structural heart interventions, including angioplasty, stenting, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), and Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge repair (TEER)/MitraClip. Despite his sub-specialty interests, he sees the entire range of general cardiology.
Dr Hayman graduated medicine with Honours at the University of Queensland in 2008. During medical school, he worked as a cardiac scientist at The Prince Charles Hospital. He then undertook his physician training and advanced training in cardiology at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Nambour General Hospital, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2015. He went on to complete two years of advanced fellowship in interventional cardiology (coronary and structural interventions) at the London Health Sciences Centre, London, Ontario, Canada. Dr Hayman also holds a Masters of Science in Clinical Physiology.
Dr Hayman a nationally accredited TAVI and Mitraclip. He is a research investigator in first-in-man percutaneous valve trials implanting novel heart valves at The Wesley Hospital. Dr Hayman co-established Mitraclip as a treatment option at The Wesley Hospital and has travelled locally and internationally teaching TAVI and Mitraclip. Dr Hayman and the Wesley structural heart team maintain the Wesley as a TAVI Centre of Excellence.
Dr Hayman is involved in ongoing medical education of medical students, junior doctors and cardiology advanced trainees. He is a lecturer for The University of Queensland. He has published many peer-reviewed journal articles in Australian and international high-impact factor journals. He has ongoing research interests through both the Wesley and Royal Brisbane hospitals.
Dr Hayman currently consults and performs procedures at The Wesley Hospital, as well as a public appointment at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and visits The Prince Charles Hospital to perform TAVI procedures. He regularly visits and consults at Bundaberg Friendlies Hospital and Birtinya, Sunshine Coast.
Dr Hayman lives in Brisbane's western suburbs with his wife and three daughters.
