Wesley Research Institute is dedicated to pushing the frontiers of medicine, delivering real impact to patients with a focus on giving hope and changing lives.

As the official research partner for UnitingCare hospitals, Wesley Research Institute is committed to investing in innovations that lead to faster diagnoses, better treatment options and ultimately cures for the most debilitating illnesses and disease.

What we do

  • Clinical Trials: Volunteers test new treatments. Research and investigations conducted through trials helps to control new treatments. Our friendly Clinical Trials Centre team supports clinical trials onsite, offering patients across South-East Queensland the unique opportunity to participate in hospital-based and sponsored clinical trials.
  • Applied Medical Research: We work with doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals, across the four UnitingCare hospital campuses to deliver programs and projects designed to deliver real improvements to patients’ lives and experiences.
  • Wesley Research Institute Biobank: A biobank is a collection of biological samples stored in a laboratory. Our Biobank stores human specimens donated and ethically sourced. Researchers use these samples to learn more about diseases and to trial new drugs and treatments. In other words, researchers give hope to and change the lives of Australians living with debilitating diseases.

Clinical Trials Centre

The Wesley Research Institute Clinical Trials Centre conducts industry and investigator-led phase II-IV clinical trials with a focus on evaluating therapies, drugs and diagnostic tools to drive discoveries into clinical practice. The Centre has extensive experience in a range of therapeutic areas, participating in more than 120 clinical trials since 1994. Engaged across four hospitals – The Wesley Hospital and St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital in Brisbane, Buderim Private Hospital on the Sunshine Coast, and St Stephen’s Hospital in Hervey Bay – Wesley Medical Research has unique access to metropolitan and regional clinicians and patients.

Wesley Research Institute focuses on providing patients, researchers and sponsors with a professional experience.
