The Wesley Hospital is proud to partner with Wesley Research Institute, a not-for-profit organisation that focuses on improving patient care and quality of life through applied health and medical research.
Established on 8 December 1994 by a group of dedicated doctors, Wesley Research Institute is Queensland’s second-oldest medical research institute. Wesley Research Institute's vision is to be recognised as a world leader in applied medical research and be acknowledged for achieving excellence and innovation in patient care.
As the official research partner for UnitingCare, its research outcomes impact all hospitals in the UnitingCare family, including St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital and The Wesley Hospital in Brisbane, Buderim Private Hospital on the Sunshine Coast, and St Stephen’s Hospital at Hervey Bay.

Research
The Wesley Research Institute invests in and develops research and innovations that lead to faster diagnosis, better treatment options and ultimately cures for debilitating illnesses and diseases. Investing in the highest calibre research capability across all programs enables their researchers to drive translational health research outcomes and support the ever-expanding network of clinicians to undertake exceptional research. Taking a collaborative approach to research, WRI brings together doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, scientists, patients and the community to work toward a common goal – to improve healthcare outcomes.

Clinical Trials Centre
The Clinical Trials Centre at Wesley Research Institute has been managing trials since 1994. Engaged across four hospitals – The Wesley Hospital, St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, Buderim Private Hospital and St Stephen’s (Hervey Bay) – clinicians and patients located in both metropolitan and regional areas can participate.
Both healthy participants and those diagnosed with a disease or condition are needed to help find new ways to diagnose, prevent, treat or cure illness. If more people are involved in clinical trials, it may reduce the time it takes to make new interventions widely available.

Founded in 2007, Wesley Research Institute Biobank is a purpose-built research facility, which collects, securely stores, and distributes ethically obtained tissue samples and associated clinical data for biomedical research. These samples and data allow researchers to better understand the underlying causes of diseases, develop new diagnostic tests and treatments, and ultimately, improve health outcomes for patients. Researchers can apply to access our extensive collection of human biospecimens and associated data. Alternatively, we can establish a prospective collection tailored towards your specific research needs or provide storage for your samples in our secure, inventory-managed storage facilities.
