What is urology?

Urology is a part of healthcare that deals with diseases of the urinary tract, including the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Urology also deals with the penis, testes, scrotum, and prostate. Many urological procedures are now performed using minimally invasive techniques.

From diagnosis to treatment, The Wesley Hospital offers patients the most comprehensive urological services in Queensland. Our experienced urologists cover an array of subspecialties, and we have a dedicated Urology Unit in the East Wing of the hospital.

At The Wesley, we also provide expert onsite radiology services, including diagnostic and interventional imaging and procedures. Specialised allied health services, including men’s and women’s health physiotherapists are also onsite, providing inpatients and outpatients with excellent care and expert knowledge.

The Wesley’s Urology Unit has extensive surgical and medical support to enable us to undertake a vast range of urological surgeries, including:

  • Bladder cancer surgery, including diagnosis (cystoscopy), resection, treatment and robotic cystectomy (bladder removal).
  • Kidney stone management, including laser removal, lithotripsy (ESWL).
  • Robotic, laparoscopic and open kidney surgery, including nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy and pyeloplasty.
  • Robotic or open radical prostatectomy.
  • Treatment for benign prostatic enlargement or hypertrophy including Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP); laser prostatectomy; Millin’s enucleation (simple prostatectomy); urolift.
