Wesley Maternity' 30th Birthday

Wesley Maternity has turned 30, celebrating three decades of delivering high quality maternal and neonatal care to generations of Queenslanders.

The Wesley Hospital Maternity Unit opened in January 1988, delivers over 1,100 babies a year and boasts a team of highly qualified expert obstetricians and midwives and the latest technology and facilities.

Wesley Hospital Director of Clinical Services, Cheryl Clayton said that the success of Wesley Maternity has been in the high quality of care provided by the team of over 20 obstetricians and 80 midwives.

"At the Wesley, we are very proud of our expert clinicians and the Wesley team that support them. Their passion and dedication to mothers and babies for the past 30 years sets them apart" Ms Clayton said.

To coincide with the very special 30th Birthday, Wesley Maternity has been blessed with the arrival of an extraordinary little man—baby Lewis.

Baby Lewis has a special link to Wesley Maternity, arriving in same unit planned and opened by his grandfather, Dr Bruce Lewis, one of Wesley Maternity’s highly experienced Paediatricians.

Dr Lewis played an integral role in the planning and opening of the Wesley Maternity Unit and Special Care Nursery back in 1987 and in 1988 welcomed his son Edward, as one of the first generations of Wesley bubs.

Having had two generations of his family born at Wesley Maternity, Dr Lewis attributes the longevity of the ward to the ongoing quality of care and standard it has provided for 30 years.

"The Maternity Unit continues to aspire to deliver the highest level of holistic neonatal and maternal care, and that was evident when my son was born and now with the birth of my Grandson 30 years on" Dr Lewis said.

Wesley Maternity features five birthing suites and a 12 bed Special Care Nursery which is supported by highly experienced neonatal intensive care trained nurses, midwives, lactation consultants and provides 24 hour support from hospital Paediatricians, including Dr Bruce Lewis.

Lewis is the first born of Dr Lewis’s daughter Rachael and son-in-law Jaran Finlayson.
