Long COVID (Post-COVID) Clinic

In response to a recognised need within the community, The Wesley Hospital is proud to be the first private hospital in Queensland to launch a Long COVID Clinic. The clinic aims to provide multidisciplinary care to address the multifactorial effects of COVID-19 on a patient’s long-term health. It is being run by our experienced Outpatient Rehabilitation team, with patients supported by a multidisciplinary team, including:

  • Physicians
  • Physiotherapists
  • Exercise physiologists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Psychologists
  • Speech pathologists
  • Dietitians.

Long COVID is generally considered to be where a person experiences COVID symptoms for more than 12 weeks after their initial infection, such as:

  • Extreme fatigue.
  • Breathlessness, heart palpitations, chest pain or tightness.
  • A cough that won’t go away.
  • Concentration and memory problems.
  • Changes to taste and smell.
  • Joint and muscle pain.
  • Hearing and eyesight problems.
  • Headaches.
  • Damage to the heart, lungs, kidneys and gut..

There is no medical definition or list of symptoms shared by all patients – two people can have very different experiences. Long COVID may affect people who have been in intensive care because of COVID-19, or people who have had relatively mild symptoms at the time of infection.

Initially the clinic will be accepting only patients referred internally by The Wesley Hospital specialists. Our goal is to develop an effective and responsive service that meets the needs of our community. We anticipate a rapid expansion of The Wesley Hospital’s Long COVID Clinic in the months following the launch of this service, offering our expertise to all Queenslanders in need.

When the service expands, a patient will require a GP referral to be assessed for program suitability. Please use the linked referral form and email to Wesley-dayrehab@uchealth.com.au
