What is rehabilitation medicine?

Rehabilitation medicine is the diagnosis, assessment and management of a person with a disability, or other functional decline due to illness or injury.

Rehabilitation physicians work with you to help you achieve an optimal level of functional independence and improve your quality of life.

You may be affected by conditions involving your nervous systems, cardiopulmonary system or musculoskeletal system.

This could mean you experience ongoing pain, difficulty with your mobility, decreased muscle control, weakness and challenges with your day-to-day living.

The hospital provides a multidisciplinary team of skilled specialists who work alongside the patient to help them reach their individual health goals.

Depending on your condition, our rehabilitation medicine services can help you to:

  • Enhance your self-confidence and your ability to deal psychologically with your illness or injury.
  • Recover from major surgery and improve your daily functional capacity or return to activities you may have been prevented from doing.
  • Reduce pain so you can become more active and enjoy life without suffering from discomfort.
