Dr Wilbur Chan has been appointed the position of Medical Director of Rehabilitation for the new Wesley Rehabilitation Service. He completed his specialist training and obtained his fellowships in Rehabilitation Medicine in 1999 and Pain Medicine in 2004. Prior to that Dr Chan completed his General Practice training in Brisbane in 1996. He also holds postgraduate qualifications in musculoskeletal, occupational, aviation and family medicine.
Dr Chan is a senior lecturer for the Department of Medicine at the University of Queensland and is an appointed member of the General and Composite Medical Tribunals with Q-Comp. He is a member of Court of Examiners in both faculties of Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine and he is also a member of the Australian Medical Council. He is the current Deputy Chair of the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, Queensland Branch.
His main areas of interest and expertise are in orthopaedic and neurological (acquired brain injury and spinal injury) rehabilitation, amputee and geriatric rehabilitation, rehabilitation for young disabled persons, chronic pain management, botulinum toxin injection for spasticity management, and vocational rehabilitation.
