Your stay at Wesley Maternity

We want your stay in our maternity ward to be as comfortable as possible and to send you home with confidence in caring for your baby. Your length of stay will be determined by your doctors but, as a guide, it may be:

  • Three to four nights for a vaginal birth.
  • Four to five nights for a caesarean birth.

To assist with normalising newborn behaviours and sleep, we encourage you to room in with your baby 24 hours a day. Our experienced midwives are available to support you as you learn about your baby, helping you to understand their feeding, hygiene, settling and sleeping needs. Lactation consultants work within Wesley Maternity on a daily basis.

Birth suites

We have five spacious birthing suites that all include the following:

  • Ensuite facilities, including dual flexible shower attachments.
  • Contemporary technological foetal monitoring support.
  • Therapeutic comfort options, including fit balls, bean bags and birth stools.
  • Flat-screen television, telephone, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
  • Access to kitchen facilities.
  • Multi-functional birthing beds.
  • Flexible lighting options, including dimmed lighting.

Ensuring the safe care of you and your baby is our highest priority. You will have access to professional support staff including midwives, obstetricians, paediatricians and anaesthetists. They are available around the clock to support you if required. A fully equipped operating theatre and Intensive Care Unit are also nearby to manage any unexpected complications.

Your labour and birth are a very special time and we encourage you to discuss any individual preferences with your obstetrician. Our experienced midwives are here to support you and your family during this time.

Maternity rooms

Our comfortable and welcoming maternity rooms will be your private sanctuary for your first few days with your new baby. All maternity rooms feature:

  • Private ensuite facilities.
  • Wi-Fi and direct dial telephone.
  • Flat-screen digital television.
  • Wardrobe and bedside table.

Partners are welcome to stay overnight at no additional fee. Partner meals are available at an additional cost of $15 per meal.

Gluten free, Halal, Kosher and vegetarian options are available. Dietitian consults are available if required. Tea and coffee-making facilities are available 24 hours a day.

Partner meals can easily be arranged after admission. There is a small cost of $15 per meal, which will be added to your account.

You can also purchase food from the Gown and Glove Restaurant, which is located on the same level as Wesley Maternity. It is open seven days from 7.15am to 7.15pm. There are also three other coffee shops within the Wesley campus (please ask a maternity staff member for information on where these are located).

During your stay at Wesley Maternity, we offer women’s health physiotherapy support after the delivery of your baby. One of our team will visit you on the ward to provide one-on-one assessment, treatment and education after a natural or caesarean birth. Most patients will be eligible for our inpatient services at no charge.
