Dr Graeme Kay graduated from James Cook University, Townsville with a Biomedical Science Degree with Honours in Microbiology and Immunology in 2000. During this time his interest in research saw him involved with the research and development of a PCR detection assay for a parvovirus affecting the NQ aquaculture industry.
Following this Dr Kay worked in Sydney manufacturing immune-detection assays for tropical diseases. He commenced his medical training in 2003 at University of Queensland which involved an attachment to Prince of Wales Hospital, NSW, Hyperbaric Unit. He has worked extensively throughout Queensland, working as an anaesthetic PHO at Rockhampton Hospital before moving to Townsville to provide rural relief in locations from Palm Island to Hughenden.
Whilst completing his Fellowship training in General Practice he worked at The Townsville Hospital Hyperbaric Medicine Unit between 2012 and 2013 as the senior registrar.
In February 2013 Graeme received his FRACGP and joined the Wesley Centre for Hyperbaric Medicine in July 2013 after four months travelling through Europe with his wife and daughter. Graeme has been a qualified diving medicine practitioner since 2010.
